Old books in libraries often have underlined passages, marking sentences that were important to someone. These underlines can sometimes represent the essence of the book itself.
The Complete Works of Kim Soo-young (1921–1968), borrowed from a public library, critiques the oppression of individual freedom within a military dictatorship and authoritarian social structure. The underlines made by an anonymous reader in this book were gathered and connected into a single drawing. This record represents the 'anonymous drawing' created by individuals who borrowed the book and marked the sections they found important.
The connected line serves as both an indicator of the text and a symbol of the book itself. The drawing, linked by underlines, reflects the intersection of anonymous individuals and time through the medium of the book.
